Open Books

Help transform children’s reading and writing skills.

There are numerous opportunities to volunteer at Open Books. You can support Open Books’ operations as a bookstore volunteer. Put your English degree to use by helping develop a student’s writing skills as a Writing Coach or serve as a Reading Coach! Chicago Thanksgiving Basket Brigade

Assemble & deliver Thanksgiving dinners to Chicagoland families in need.

In November 2018, the Chicago Basket Brigade delivered 2,200 Thanksgiving baskets to families all throughout Chicagoland. Volunteer by assembling dinner baskets or by using a personal vehicle to deliver the baskets throughout Chicago. Monetary donations are accepted that will then be used to purchase food for the baskets. Assembly day takes place on November 24th, 2019. PAWS Chicago

Help rescue animals find their forever homes!

The possibilities at PAWS Chicago are endless! PAWS Chicago has many adorable cats and dogs that are in need of socializing, this means plenty of cuddle sessions that are bound to have you coming back. You can help run outreach events, not only will you get to enjoy the company of adorable animals but you’ll pick up skills you can add to your resume. There are a few PAWS locations throughout Chicago plus the Medical Center & Lurie Clinic location is near our Millard Ave & 26th St. Divvy station. Howard Area Community Center

Teach English as a second language.

The Howard Area Community Center is a social service agency located in the greater Rogers Park area. HACC provides affordable and free education, employment, and health assistance programs. Lend a hand with HACC’s food pantry, work with young people as a Youth Center volunteer. Share your knowledge with motivated adult learners, no prior teaching experience is needed. Habitat for Humanity: Chicago

Leave a lasting impact by building homes for fellow Chicagoans.

Get your hands dirty with painting, roofing, flooring, landscaping and more! No construction experience is necessary The Habitat construction staff will guide you through every task. If construction work isn’t for you, you can help run the Habitat ReStore second-hand store. Day-to-day tasks include sales, processing donations, merchandise placement, and more.
